 WARNING:
IT IS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORINA THAT READING THIS MAY
                    CAUSE DROWSINESS!!
I have seen and experienced a lot of changes to the Central
Coast since moving to the area as a kid in 1955!.....I am
one of what eventually would be four kids growing up close
to the ocean in the rural areas of the South County (Arroyo
Grande, Oceano, Grover Beach area) surrounded by strawberry
                    fields. Going
to school at Oceano Elementary I experienced diving under
my desk during the air raid warnings through the Cuban Missile
Crisis of the early 60's. Vandenberg Air Force Base was considered
a prime target. I didn't really understand the seriousness
of the times, but my parents were fully aware as my father
had landed on Utah Beach and experienced the full European
                    Campaign during WW II.
Being able to enjoy Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Avila Beach
and San Luis Obispo was a normal occurrence for us. I graduated
from Arroyo Grande High School in 1969 and started working
in a service station with two of my high school buddies. That
lasted about a year and then I started hanging out at Deans
Muffler in Arroyo Grande. I was intrigued by the business,
and he had a dragster! I went to work for the State in 1972,
got married a few months later and I thought I was ready for
what the world had in store for me
..But life really
is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna
                    get.
 I
found out that I needed to be self-employed. Seems it just
works better for me. I tend to look at life differently, I
think, than most people. By 1974 I realized that I needed
to pursue my own future and not have it tied to working for
                    someone. Just seemed appropriate that
I should have my own business.
I have been working on and around high performance
cars since I was 12. By 1977 I moved to Atascadero and opened
my own Muffler Shop and Auto Repair business. Great business,
but after 9 years I started to have some health problems,
back to that "box of chocolates" saying, and I sold
the business. It was at that time I got my real estate license
followed by a divorce. Now 19 plus years later I am sitting
here writing this "About Mike" stuff.I have been involved in many community service
events, and am Past President of the Atascadero Lions Club.
I'm also involved in different aspects of the inner workings
of the Paso Robles Association of Realtors; we are presently
involved in the process of hiring a Government Affairs Director.
The seven area Realtor Associations came together and agreed
that a Government Affairs Director is needed to monitor the
activities of City and County governments that will affect property
rights in our area. The City and County Governments have too
much going on for most people to keep track of them. By the way, I have two grown children who
are doing just great!I am interested, still and always, in fast cars, NHRA and
Goodguys drag racing; top fuel, funny cars, alcohol cars,
super gas cars. Boat racing, land speed record attempts, salt
flat trials, hot rods, racecars, custom car fabrication, muscle
cars, bench racing and all of the great people that are involved
                    with them.
My other love is dancing, live music and
the wonderful people that have become some of my dearest friends.
There are many great places to dance and many great groups
or organizations that put on dances in the county. Madonna
Inn in San Luis Obispo, Mothers Tavern, The Graduate, Tortilla
Flats and many more. The Paso Robles Inn is fun but the dance
floor is very small.... And that's all I have to say about that.
